Inspired by the functionality of men’s clothing, Coco Chanel – far ahead of her time – had a major impact on the development of women’s fashion from uncomfortable dresses and robes to more practical items of clothing that also retained feminine elegance after the First World War. Coco Chanel died at an early age in the early 1970s. The fashion house was only revived when Karl Lagerfeld took over the management in the early 80s and used the rich company history as inspiration for his own creations.
