How the objects are selected which are offered in ABOUT THE STORY?

Our vintage experts travel the world to find the most extraordinary design objects. We have high standards and are very selective, which is why we carefully select our products accordingly.

What is the difference between buying a new lifestyle item and buying a vintage piece?

First and foremost, the vintage market provides access to designer items that are no longer available from the brands themselves. Luxury & Lifestyle products are all about quality and exclusivity. Many of the items we offer are extremely rare and can only be purchased through the secondary market. Our goal is to find unique designs and unique items. In today’s globalized world with total access to all products, we often feel ‘oversaturated’ and find that many ‘old’ or ‘used’ items are even more exclusive than what’s available everywhere.

By buying a vintage product, you can also help protect our environment! Vintage products not only stand for sustainability, but also make a statement against mass production and waste of resources. With a longer product use of only 9 months, the carbon consumption, as well as the water and waste volume already by 20-30% can be reduced.

How are the prices composed?

Not every vintage object is comparable. Our prices are based on condition, age, material and designer. Add to this the rarity and origin of the product. If you have any questions regarding the price calculation of a specific product, feel free to contact us at any time!

What is the condition of the vintage products?

Every product in our shop has its own origin and history. We would like to remind you that these are unique vintage pieces that we love because of their typical age-related character! Our collection is consistently in good quality: We do not sell any damaged or extremely worn objects and jewelry. Each piece is professionally cleaned and disinfected by us.

We try to describe the condition of each object as accurately as possible. Please check the information and photos on the product detail page before ordering. Some vintage objects show signs of use such as small scratches or irregularities in color or material. Depending on their age and origin, these traces may be more or less visible. It is important to understand that these tracks are not a defect, but an integral part of the very personal story of each piece.

What does "vintage" actually mean?

To be able to call something technically correct “vintage”, the production date of the article must be at least 20 years ago. In addition, the piece must not come from any mass production. All our offers in the online shop come from estate sales, private auctions or antique markets. A precise age assessment is often difficult, especially for unsigned pieces. Years of experience and accurate research finally allow us to classify in the correct decade and a statement about the exact origin of the product. When choosing our collections, we focus on pieces made between 1940 and 2000.

Are there any ABOUT THE STORY vouchers to buy and give away?

It is possible to order ABOUT THE STORY vouchers. You pay only the value of the voucher, shipping costs do not apply. Once the invoice amount has been paid, you will receive an email with a code that can be redeemed at checkout during the order process. Do ear clips hurt?

Unfortunately there is no universally valid answer. Each pair of ear clips sits differently and each person has a different sensation of pain on the earlobes. Basically, however, ear clips can be adjusted more easily and loosely by hand!

With some clips we are also able to install special silicone pads that make wearing more comfortable. These are of course included with every order. Unfortunately, they only fit on special clip types.

If, despite the measures mentioned, there is no improvement in wearing comfort, it is possible to turn most clips into stud earrings!

Can you turn ear clips into earrings?

This is actually possible with most ear clips. We do not offer this service as we only sell vintage jewelry in their original condition. But at the jeweler’s usually no problem. It should be noted, however, that in such changes, the jewelry loses its vintage authenticity and it can quickly come to damage due to the age!

Is the selected item nickel free?

All products offered in our online shop are unique and come from different decades and from different designers. Some pieces of jewelery are stamped, others only give information about their approximate age by their design. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to determine the exact material. Basically, people with sensitive skin can tolerate vintage jewelry quite well, since the production z.T. very different from today. The base metals (which may contain nickel) have often been triple-coated so that the distance to the skin is much greater than with modern fashion jewelry. However, minimal traces of wear could possibly release the nickel again. So always be careful!


How can I order something at ABOUT THE STORY?

Can I reserve products without paying?

Unfortunately, we usually can not reserve any products. This is only possible in exceptional cases with special agreement. Since we offer only unique items, they are often sold out quickly. For this reason, we recommend you to order quickly, to avoid possible disappointment.

I have placed an order. What happens next?

After placing your order online, you will receive an order confirmation via e-mail.

If you would like to know more about the current status of your order, you are welcome to send us an e-mail to stating the order number. We are happy to provide information!

Can I cancel an order?

If you have ordered the wrong product or have just changed your mind, you can cancel your order by sending a message to immediately. Please understand that we can not accept cancellations for orders that have already been shipped.

How do I know the status of my order?

Within 24 hours of receiving your order, your package will be prepared for shipment.

Orders are shipped by DHL as standard. After shipping, you’ll receive a tracking email that makes it easy to track your order online.

Can I get expertise for my product?

The expertise of a product can be found in the respective article description. If you are interested, you can get them in print for your documents. Please write us your request in the comment field when purchasing.

However, we at ABOUT THE STORY do not issue any certificates, as this is unfortunately only reserved for the trademark owner.

Can I exchange my order?

If an item does not meet the requirements, you can of course return within a 14-day exchange period from receipt of the goods to us! Please contact our customer service via email and return the item carefully packed in its original condition to the address given to you. Once the return has arrived, we will transfer the full amount back to your account. The postage back to us, we usually do not, because we refund the full amount of the invoice including shipping in case of exchange.

ATTENTION: The replacement of a piece of jewelery is NOT possible anymore if the security label has been removed. For us, this means that you have already worn the item. Unfortunately, we can not take this back. Please note this notice before removing the label!


Which payment options are available to me?

We accept payments by PayPal, credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and bank transfer.

How does the payment by bank transfer work?

If you want to pay by bank transfer, please select in the order process under the menu item “payment method” the option “advance payment” and then click on “buy now”. Our bank information can be found in the order confirmation. Attention: Please indicate the order number in the subject line of the transfer, so that we can allocate the payment. Depending on the bank, it may take between two and four business days for the payment to reach us. For returns, the appropriate amount will be credited to the account from which the original transfer was made.

How does the payment by Paypal work?

You can easily and securely pay via PayPal. At the end of the order process choose “PayPal” as the payment method; You will then be redirected to PayPal automatically. If you are already registered with PayPal, you can log in with your username and password and confirm the payment. If you are not yet registered with PayPal, you can also log in as a guest or quickly create a new PayPal account and then confirm the payment.

For returns, the corresponding amount will be credited to the PayPal account from which the original payment was made.
